Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls (モンスター娘のいる日常, Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou) Chapter 30 is the thirtieth chapter of the Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls manga series.
Written and drawn by mangaka Okayado (Inui Takemaru), this chapter was released in Japan on March 7th, 2015, by the Japanese publishing company Tokuma Shoten within the seinen manga and anime magazine, Monthly Comic Ryū.
The chapter was later gathered as part of the series' tankōbon volume Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls Volume 7.
Plot[]

Kimihito thinks about the conversation with Ms Smith.
The chapter begins with Kimihito sitting in the open air on a tree trunk by a river and brooding to himself. He calmly thinks about how Ms Smith had urged him shortly before to finally give her an answer to the question of which of his seven homestay girls he wants to marry. Kimihito agrees with Ms Smith question, but the next moment he bursts into despair, as it is simply impossible for him to choose one of his homestay girls. Sighing, he lets himself fall to the floor, thinking about what he has learned about the good qualities of the girls and their feelings towards him. He thinks to himself that he can probably only find an answer to Ms Smith's question if he has to face up to the feelings and love of the girls.
Only at this moment, however, does Kimihito notice his unusual surroundings and he wonders where he is, since he was just at his house. While he is still wondering, he suddenly notices the silhouette of another person near him, but before he can really see it, the vision in front of him suddenly blurs and he is brought back to reality.
When Kimihito regains consciousness, he is surprised to find that he is laying in the the backyard of the Kurusu house, while Miia, Papi and Centorea bend over him in concern and ask if he is okay. Confused, Kimihito wonders what happened, before he sees a ladder lying in the grass next to him and he begins to remember.
Rachnera had told Kimihito that it was noisy in her attic, so he had leaned the long ladder in the backyard against the wall of the house so that he could climb up to check the roof. Miia had held the ladder in the backyard for Kimihito's safety. However, Papi had appeared and happily flew around Kimihito because she had misunderstood his climbing as a game. Enraged because Papi's flutter had endangered Kimihito, Miia had started hitting Papi with her long snake tail, but in doing so she had only made the ladder shake more and inadvertently endangered Kimihito even more. When Centorea, who had also been in the backyard, had seen this, she had stormed off to save her "Milord", but in the process she had stumbled and fallen against the ladder, causing Kimihito to finally lose his footing and fall meters to the ground.
Annoyed, Miia pulls Kimihito to her and tells the other two girls that she is now dating "her darling" after her mother has given her her approval and that the other girls should not dare to hurt him. Outraged by Miia's claim of sole dating rights for Kimihito, Papi and Centorea start arguing with Miia, by saying that their own mothers have also accepted Kimihito and given their approvals. The argument quickly becomes physical, whereby the three women start to tug at Kimihito. Kimihito, for whom the tugging is very painful, is dismayed by the situation, but while he think to himself that he normally try to stop the girls, he chooses not to say instead because he thinks he has to face the girls' feeling for him.
He still believes that he can endure the situation, but in the next moment he accidentally gets a hoof kick from Centorea, who doesn't even notice it, whose force hurls him in a high arc through the air. To his horror, he threatens to hit some large rocks in the garden, but just in time, Suu suddenly appears and saves Kimihito from the impact by catching him with her soft Slime body. Still in shock, Kimihito thanks Suu, while Miia, Papi and Centorea didn't notice anything about that Kimihito was almost hurt again, because they are still far too busy with their argument.

Suu suggests to Kimihito that he could marry all his homestay girls.
After Kimihito recovers from the shock, he is mopping the hallway at Kurusu Kurusu house with a damp scrubbing brush when Suu suddenly asks him if he will get married, since she overheard Ms Smith talking to him about it. While Kimihito examines a cut on his finger, he says, dodging the question, that it is complicated. Suu then suddenly enthusiastically and naively suggests that he should maybe marry all seven of his homestay girls, since they all love him. Unsure what to think of this thought, Kimihito says evasively that this would certainly make a lot of things easier, but it's clear to him that Suu doesn't seem to understand how marriage works.

Suu praises her housework qualities.
While dipping the scrubbing brush into the cleaning bucket again, he explains to Suu that it is only allowed by law to marry only one person and that it is therefore important to get sure that this person it's the best one. Suu asks in what the person must be "the best", to which Kimihito is also unsure. Suu then happily starts to list that she is the best at helping, for example cleaning the floor (like a vacuum cleaner robot), or the best at helping with cooking (peeling the vegetables), or the best at "cleaning and leftovers" (when Miia and Papi feed her the veggies they don't want to eat themselves). Laughing, Kimihito strokes Suu's head and agrees that she is a good girl, but Suu then suddenly asks him directly if she is the best and if Kimihito can marry her. Surprised by this direct question, Kimihito falters and is unsure what he should to answer.
Possibly as a worried reaction to Kimihito's hesitation, Suu suddenly pounces on him and begins to wrap her slime body around him from head to toe to "help" him. Startled, Kimihito tells Suu to stop, but Suu doesn't notice his discomfort and continues while happily saying that she can make Kimihito all clean. She then says that she can even fix Kimihito's injuries and demonstrates this by sucking on his finger to heal his cut. In Lovy-dovy mode, Suu says that she would do anything for Kimihito and with her slime tentacles she sucks the water out of the cleaning bucket, giving her big seductive breasts. Desperate about the situation he is in, Kimihito thinks to himself that he has to accept Suu's feelings and therefore cannot run away, but now Suu also encloses his head, threatening to drown him in her liquid Slime body. Finally, he becomes blacking out again, while Suu continues to happily cleanse his body and still doesn't realize that she is almost killing him with her love.

A reunion with a deceased relative.
When Kimihito regains consciousness shortly afterwards, he sees to his amazement that he is back in the strange place where he was already at the beginning of the Chaper, the river (in which he now stands), which is surrounded on both sides by the flower meadows. Confused, Kimihito wonders if he is in the River Styx when he is suddenly caught by a strong current that threatens to pull him to the other side of the river. He sees an old man on the other side of the river bank who waving at him in a friendly way. Horrified, Kimihito recognizes the man as his long-dead great grandpa and with the possibility that he could really be in the afterlife, he begins desperatelly to swim against the current with all his strength. As he swims to the opposite river bank of, he sees a girl sitting there, whereupon he stretches out his hand and begs her for help.
At that moment, the vision/near-death experiences of the strange river disappears again as suddenly as it appeared and instead of the girl, he suddenly looks into Mero's face, so that he accidentally grabs her breasts with his outstretched arm, much to the embarrassment of both of them. Taken by surprise, Kimihito asks why he is in her swimming pool, to which Mero explains that she saw Suu attack him near her door, so she dragged him into her pool to keep him safe. Confused, Kimihito thinks to himself why he has had these strange near-death experiences lately and why he can never quite remember of them.
Mero asks Kimihito if Suu overreacted so much because she overheard his discussion about marriage with Ms Smith, which gave Kimihito a groan to learn that Mero also heard from the disscussion. Somewhat casually, Kimihito asks if Mero wants to marry him too, but she claims that she never dream of that. Worried about getting into an embarrassing situation again, and since Mero seems to be averse to the topic, Kimihito awkwardly says that he didn't intend to do that either, to which Mero says that's not what she meant.
Kimihito remembers that Mero like love tragedy, which she confirms with some embarrassment, adding that Shakespeare's books are also full of tragedies. Kimihito admits that he thinks it's a little weird that someone wants to be someone's mistress, to which Mero says dismayed that she doesn't think he's a "cheating scoundrel" or some sort of "dithering coward". The last designation, however, hits Kimihito like an arrow in the heart, as he already feels like a coward due to his inability to decide which of his seven homestay girls he wants to marry.
Depressed, Kimihito admits that cowards are the worst, which Mero, also depressed, agrees with and says that it is rather daft off her to want to be somebody's mistress. Kimihito wonders about Mero's sudden change of heart, but to dodge his question, Mero hastily claims that she has a favor to ask of him. She claims that her pool recently had problems and if that he could check that. Kimihito says that he doesn't know anything about pools, but Mero insists that he should take a look at it and together they dive to the bottom of the pool.
When they arrive at the bottom of the pool, Mero thinks sorrowfully to himself that Kimihito will be repulsed by her saying that she wants to be his mistress. Kimihito doesn't notice Mero's sadness as he continues to search the pool for problems, not really knowing what he can look for. Mero admits to herself in her mind that she actually lied about there being problems with the pool. As Mero takes off her bra, she thinks to herself that she thought that "Beloved" could might be the one to make that dream coming true, the tragedy of a love romance she dreamed of ever since she was a little girl. But in the meantime, Mero is no longer sure about this love tragedy and now topless she snuggles up to Kimihto, which makes him freeze briefly when he suddenly feels her soft breasts on his back.

Mero hugs Kimihito underwater and doesn't notice that she grabs him and drowns him.
Mero hesitantly asks Kimihito if he might also consider her as a possible bridge, which Kimihito, confused by the question, confirms. This answer makes Mero happy, but she also wonders why the thought that she would never be bound by marriage, never being requited and never being loved suddenly feels so painful to her, since she has always wanted a love tragedy. Too deep in her thoughts and in "tragic heroine mode", Mero doesn't notice that Kimihito is running out of air to breathe underwater and that he is in danger of drowning in the pool. He desperately tries to point out his situation to Mero, but eventually he loses consciousness again.
Kimihito has another near-death experience in which he is back at the Sanzu River. Exhausted (and wishing that he wouldn't always forget everything he experienced in his near-death experiences when he wakes up again), he says to himself that Lala was perhaps right about his doom after all, because meeting his homestay girl's feeling could lead to his death. But Kimihito is determined that he must not die, but must stay alive and accept their feelings. When he looks up, however, he sees, now more clearly, the girl from his last near-death experience standing in front of him, who says somewhat mockingly that he is a "diligent one". Surprised, Kimihito recognizes the girl, but before he can ask a question, his near-death experience ends again and he is sent back to the real world.
When Kimihito awakens in the real world, he is pulled out of Mero's pool by a thread. While gasping for air, Mero apologizes, deeply dismayed and ashamed, for almost drowning him while lost in her thoughts. The next moment, however, a stern voice rings out above the two of them and it turns out that it was Rachnera, hanging from the ceiling of Mero's room, who pulled Kimihito out of the pool with her spider silk thread.
In a mixture of stern annoyance and seductive amusement, the Arachne reminds Kimihito that she had asked him to be checked on the roof for her, and asks how she should now "punish him for ditching to suck face with the itsy bitsy Mermaid". Without waiting for an explanation or apology from Kimihito for his negligence, she decides to take him to her room in the attic to treat him to one-hundred shibari positions in a row. When Mero sees Rachnera carrying the protesting Kimihito out of her room, she is dismayed and exchanges a worried look with Suu.

Rachnera's bondage "punishment" for Kimihito.
Upstairs in the attic, Rachnera captivates Kimihito one after the other with some hard bondage poses, through which she plays with him like a marrionette doll. Finally he tries to get away from her, but again he tells himself that he can't run away, but has to accept Rachnera's feelings for him. Annoyed by his behavior, however, Rachnera suddenly cuts the thread that keeps Kimihito in balance, whereupon he falls rudely to the ground. Strictly, Rachnera stands up in front of him and says that she knows exactly why he suddenly tries to accept each of his homestay girls and their feelings for him head-on, namely because Ms Smith had told him to choose a wife. Unpleasantly surprised that Rachnera has seen through his thoughts so closely, Kimihito can't think of anything he can say in response.

A pictorial demonstration with a string puppet.
Rachnera still tells him sternly that he should have figured out by now that he will destroy himself if he tries to accept the feelings of all of his homestay girls. To underpin this statement visually, the Arachne quickly knits a small string puppet of Kimihito, which she then tears apart with a short tug.
While Kimihito looks guiltily at the ground, Rachnera continues to reprimand him that she and the other homestay girls don't want to hurt him or other people and that they feel awful if this happens to them accidentally. Rachnera adds that her body in particular "doesn't play well with humans" and that she feels especially awful when she accidentally hurts others, sadly thinking of Ren Kunanzuki, who was hurt very painfully by her. Disappointed and sad, Rachnera turns away from Kimihito and says that he has no clue about how she feels.
To Rachnera's surprise, however, Kimihito replies that he knows very well how she feels. Because while his other homestay girls have often shown him their feelings "a little over enthusiastic", he has noticed that Rachnera has never hurt him even once. Kimihito adds that he knows that a lot of people don't understand Rachnera, but he also knows that she shows them nothing but consideration in return and that he knows how kind she is.
Rachnera is speechless for a moment, so touched and flattered by Kimihito's words and that he noticed that she never hurt him by mistake. However, in order to cover up this "weak moment", she starts to wrap her threads around him at breakneck speed, while pretending to be angry about his words. Kimihito asks her to stop tying him up just to hide how embarrassed she is, although Rachnera loudly denies that she is embarrassed (which is obviously not true).

Spectacular performance with an unspectacular explanation.
While Rachnera is still busy tying Kimihito, voices suddenly sound from the attic hatch from the hallway below the attic, saying that they are preparing for the "secret attack" and then suddenly Mero jumps through the hatch up to the attic and shouts loudly "Mermaid Waterfall Climb". In a less spectacular explanation for this unusual achievement for a Mermaid, a diagram shows that Mero did not jump into the attic with her own hands, but that Suu held her up from below. Suu then climbs to Mero in the attic, where the two give each other a high five for this successful "fusion attack".
Mero turns to Rachnera and said to her that she was the one who dragged Kimihito into the pool and that therefore only she was the reason why he was not able to check the roof for Rachnera. The Mermaid is willing to take full responsibility for this, but she breaks off in the middle of her sentence when she sees the scene in front of her in which the bound Kimihito lies on Rachnera's bed, while the Arachne squats on him in a kind of sex pose. Startled, Mero asks what Rachnera is doing and if she is trying to force herself upon Kimihito. Embarrassed, Rachnera admits that that was more or less her intention.

Mero's dramatic tragic love fantasy.
Mero falls again into one of her tragic romance fantasies, in which she imagines a "Broken Rape Victim" scenario in which Kimihito is violated by Rachnera, then shutters up his heart and marries her. Rachnera amusingly calls Mero a "drama queen", but adds that she actually likes this scenario and she is already preparing to seduce the rather unwilling Kimihito. But then voices sound again from the attic hatch and suddenly Miia, Papi and Centorea appear, alarmed by the talk of the other homestay girls up in the attic.
Miia angrily threatens Rachnera that she will make sure that Rachnera will pay for trying to "steal" Kimihito's innocence, while Papi doesn't understand the meaning of the word "innocence". Rachnera doesn't really care about Miia's rant and says that the other girls should leave, as she fears that the weight of all the girls together is too much for the already creaking attic.

The attic collapses under the collective weight of the homestay girls.
However, the heavy Centorea continues to try to climb into the attic, although it is difficult for her to stand on the ladder. With sheer horror, Rachnera screams at Centorea that she is too heavy for the attic, but the fiercely determined and impulsive Centauride, doesn't think of the consequences, ignored Rachnera's concern and stamps with full force on the floor of the attic with her two front legs. But Rachnera's concern proves to be justified: Due to Centorea's additional weight, the attic finally collapses and Kimihito and his homestay girls fall down into the depths screaming in horror.

Kimihito's near-death experience with Lala.
Kimihito has another near-death experience on the Sanzu River. When he notices a person behind him, he apologizes for being in that place again and correctly identifies the other person as Lala. The Dullahan asks him in amazement how he knows this, to which Kimihito points out that he has had several of these near-death experiences and has seen her face every time. Kimihito asks Lala why she always helped him to come back to life, but Lala reveals that she didn't help him at all, as he always returned to life with his own will alone. She adds that this will is not based on fear of death, but on his determination to continue to be there for others. Lala explains that it is exactly these two qualities that caught her interest in Kimihito: his power to push aside the death and his kindness.

Lala tells Kimihito that his soul will be hers when he dies.
Uncertainly, Kimihito asks Lala if she try to say that she also wants to marry him, but Lala says openly that she is not interested in that. She says that all folks will die at some point and that even if they marry, death is inevitable. However, Lala adds that she is a Dullahan and that means that when Kimihito dies, his soul will be hers and therefore he will never need to fear the Grim Reaper. Insecure and a bit disturbed by these somewhat sinister words, the meaning of which he doesn't quite understand, Kimihito can't think of anything to reply to, while the near-death experience already ends and he is sent back to the world of the living.
Back in the world of the living, the very guilty Ms Smith asks how much damage is being done in the Kurusu house. Kimihito says that Rachnera's attic collapsed, whereby also crushed his room, as it was right under the attic. The rest of the house is undestroyed. Worried, Ms Smith asks for casualties, but Kimihito assures her that no one was hurt because Suu has absorbed the fall of the others with her mucous body like a cushion. However, Rachnera doesn't take the matter so lightly and points out that Kimihito was on the verge of death more than once during that day.
Ms Smith apologizes to Kimihito for trying to rush his decision and not realizing that the girls were eavesdropping on her. Kimihito replies that he probably still has a long way to go before he can make a decision about getting married. Miia, Papi and Centorea sit up and take notice of these words, as they didn't know until just now that Kimihito had thought about marrying one of his homestay girls. Kimihito explains that he needs intensive physical training before he can even accept everyone's attention. He immediately starts with a few push-ups, although Ms Smith, since she doesn't know what he had to go through during the day, wonders what he is doing.
Worried, Miia asks where they should go now until the house is rebuilt and also expresses her concern that the attic could collapse again if Centorea puts a hoof in it. The Centauride is outraged by this, although Rachnera rightly angrily points out that the damage to the house and to the attic was actually largely Centorea's fault. Ms Smith reveals that the construction team is already on hand to make a complete overhaul, but Kimihito is worried where he and his homestay girls will live during this time, as the construction of the house will certainly take some time. Ms Smith then asks somewhat mysteriously how they would feel about taking a trip.

Key Events[]
- Lala is revealed to be an actual Shinigami, though so far only Kimihito is aware of this.
- Lala reveals that unlike the other six homestay girls, she has no interest in marrying Kimihito, although it is obvious that she still loves him due to his kindness. However, she tells Kimihito that due to the fact that she is a Dullahan, when he dies his soul will be hers.
- It is revealed, that Kimihito has a great-grandfather, who died prior to the events of the manga series.
- The Kurusu House is wrecked due to Centorea accidentally breaking through the weak attic floor. The inhabitants have to temporarily move out while it's being repaired.
Trivia[]
- Kimihito mentions about the Sanzu River when he's experiencing the near-death experience.
- It is believed to be the boundary between the realms of the living and the dead, the dead must cross the river on their way to the realm known as Higan; an endless flower garden where there are no nights or days and no seasons, just a gentle warm light that covers the place as the dead await judgement on whether they will enter the Netherworld (following which they will eventually be re-encarnated and return to the world of the living) or Hell (where they will be doomed to remain for eternity).
- This chapter reveals that Kimihito had a great-grandpa who died long before the events of the series, although Kimihito's reaction when he sees him on the other side of the Sanzu River implies that he at least lived long enough that Kimihito knew him personally.
- The cover of this chapter resembles the opening scene of the anime.
- In the second segment of the fourth episode of the anime Centaur no Nayami[1], the character Nozomi Gokuraku reads manga instead of studying. The book she holds shows the fourth and fifth pages of chapter 30 of Monster Musume.
- Although Kimihito learns about Lala's powers in this chapter, it is later revealed in chapter 38 that Kimihito always forgets everything he experiences in the afterlife when he wakes up again. He can only remember past visits whenever he revisits the afterlife, so it's ambiguous to say whether Kimihito actually knows about Lala's supernatural powers.
