Manga Chapter 75

Hakuto is a Raptor Harpy who, like many other people, was drawn into the world of Arbatel by the magic of the Grimoire and was a student at the Grimoire Public High School for a time. She makes their debut in Chapter 75.

Appearance[]

As a Raptor Harpy, Hakuto's body proportions are muss less youthful than most other Harpies, resembling that of a full-grown human female with large breasts. She has fair skin and somewhat tousled, two-toned hair that falls in a short, light fringe in front of her face and hangs down her back in a long, dark stand of hair. As a Raptor Harpy, Hakuto has wings instead of arms and sharp claws instead of toes.

During her stay in the Grimoire, Hakuto wears the usual school uniform, consisting of a seifuku with a plaid skirt.

Personality[]

Typical of Raptor Harpies, Hakuto has a proud side, as she stubbornly refused to admit that she was afraid of the Five Mysteries of Grimoire High School and embarrassedly denied that her human companion was her boyfriend. As seen in her conversation with Mimi in Chapter 75, Hakuto seems to have a short temper at times, as she got very upset at the Owl Harpy's taunts.

While Hakuto strives to appear confident on the outside, on her inside she is far more insecure and sensitive. As seen in Chapter 76, Hakuto is very afraid of the dark and ghosts while at the same time hating that she is so scared. On the other hand, Hakuto also politely declined her boyfriend's suggestion to claim that he instead of her was afraid of the ghost stories. This shows that Hakuto is willing to face her fear regardless of the fact that she was still worried that the other students would make fun of her because of her fear. She was also against her boyfriend's suggestion because she would have been very disappointed in herself to make him a joke for her own fears to the others, which shows that she is very honest and does not want to shift the blame for her own mistakes onto others.

According to her description in Chapter 79, the events of Chapter 76 have made Hakuto much more confident now that she is more true to herself and has learned that she doesn't have to pay so much attention to what other people say. However, the official translation of the description instead states that Hakuto has learned from her stay at the Grimoire that there is no reason for her to be so unnecessarily stubborn. According to her omake, after it turned out that her boyfriend was a college student, Hakuto learned to let him spoil her a bit. Since then, their previous harshness has almost been utterly subdued.

Skills and Traits[]

  • Raptor Harpy Physiology:
    • Bad Night Vision: As mentioned in Chapter 75, like most diurnal Harpies, Hakuto has poor night vision. Because of this, she is afraid of the dark.
    • Resistance to Cold: Being adorned with feathers, Raptor Harpies evolved to last in cold places.
    • Wings: Since Raptor Harpies evolved bigger bodies, they can fly faster than a standard Harpy.
    • Superhuman Strength: Due to being the larger and predatory side of the Harpy family, Raptor Harpies evolved to be bigger and stronger than a normal Harpy, able to catch prey the size of a deer.
    • Advanced Eyesight: A Raptor Harpy's eyesight is ten times stronger than that of a human.
    • Talons: Because of her avian legs, Hakuto possesses claws instead of feet.

History[]

Hakuto was one of the numerous people whose consciousness was absorbed into the magical world of the Grimoire Public High School by Arbatel, although the exact circumstances of how this happened are unknown. Like everyone else, Hakuto was brainwashed the enchanted school uniform and really believed that she was a student of Grimoire Public High School. Hakuto also developed a romantic relationship with a male human student, although she was reluctant to admit to others that he was her boyfriend.

Plot[]

The test of courage[]

Hakuto1

Mimi and Hakuto talks about the ghost stories.

Hakuto makes her debut in Chapter 75, while Kimihito and Papi overhear her arguing with the Owl Harpy Mimi in the Grimoire public high school men's student dormitory. Mimi teases Hakuto about being afraid of ghosts, while Hakuto loudly denies that she's afraid. Eventually, Mimi's assistant and Hakuto's boyfriend attempt to calm the situation, with the assistant asking Mimi if it's really true that there are ghost stories at Grimoire High School, which Mimi confirms. Hakuto says in false confidence (to calm herself) that she's heard that there's only five ghost stories instead of seven, so there's no reason to be afraid.

Hakuto is visibly queasy when she hears about the ghost stories.

Mimi then mockingly asks Hakuto if she knows about all five mysteries and tells what she heard from the rumours in order. Hakuto is visibly queasy about the ghost stories and is horrified when Mimi suddenly suggests that they sneak into the school tonight to see if the stories are true. Mimi is amused by Hakuto's concern and tells her that she can take her boyfriend with her if she's too scared, to which the Raptor Harpy, embarrassed, immediately denies that the boy by her side is her boyfriend.

While Kimihito observes the conversation, he becomes suspicious because he suspects that the five ghost stories are actually the four MON-girls and Lala.[1]

Entering the school at night[]

While Mimi and her assistant lands in the schoolyard at night at Chapter 76, they talk about whether everything is okay with Hakuto and her boyfriend, although Mimi mockingly says that they are probably sitting somewhere crying and scared. When Mimi hears two people nearby trying lower their voices, she assumes with amusement that it's Hakuto and her boyfriend secretly having sex together, but she doesn't care and enters the school with her assistant.

Without Mimi ever knowing, however, her suspicion was wrong, as the two people were actually Kimihito and Papi, who were hiding while secretly looking for the MON-girls.

While Mimi and her assistant enter the school, Hakuto sits with her boyfriend near the Grimoire school's locked entrance gate. Hakuto is very scared of the dark and begins to worry that everyone will make fun of her for it. Her boyfriend tries to reassure her that this fear is normal, adding that flying at night is dangerous anyway. However, Hakuto is not reassured by this and cries quietly to herself.

Her boyfriend then says in a firm voice that Hakuto could also tell the other students that it was his fault, either because he didn't want to fly at night or because he was super scared by the ghost stories. Both would be good excuses, especially since he doesn't care what other people say about him. However, Hakuto politely says that he doesn't need to do this for her and that she just hates how scared she is. Her boyfriend then apologizes to her, but Hakuto is grateful for caring for her and leans into him, touched.[2]

Confrontation with Mimi[]

Mimi hysterical1

Mimi screams hysterically at Hakuto.

The tender moment is short-lived, however, as suddenly Mimi lands in front of them with a loud scream along with her assistant, after escaping from school because of Doppel's prank. Hakuto mentally steels herself for Mimi's taunting comments, but when she asks about the ghost stories, Mimi instead hysterically interrupts her, much to Hakuto's shock. Outraged and still hysterical, Mimi continues to yell at Hakuto, accusing the Raptor Harpy of trying to directly remind her of this "horrible place" after she and her assistant escaped from it. Confused and shocked by this violent outburst of emotions, Hakuto stutters a few words, but she doesn't know how to answer them.

Still thinking about her mistaken assumption that Hakuto secretly had sex with her boyfriend in the school at night, Mimi now hysterical asks if the Raptor Harpy is "insane" to do "it" in a place like that, which shocks and confuses Hakuto because she doesn't know what Mimi is talking about. Mimi holds on to her assistant and begs him on her knees that he has to stay with her tonight and that he can do "anything" with her, as long as she doesn't have to spend the night alone. Hakuto and her boyfriend both look at each other uncertainly, not knowing what to make of Mimi's hysterical, almost crazy, emotional outburst or what she's even talking about.[2]

Hakuto was safely sent back to the normal world after Arbatel released everyone's absorbed consciousness in Chapter 80. Hakuto may also have been among those who sent a petition to Arbatel, since she developed a relationship with her boyfriend thanks to the Grimoire. According to her Omake, after it turned out that her boyfriend was a college student, Hakuto learned to let him spoil her a bit. Since then, their previous harshness has almost been utterly subdued. But Mimi, who has since recovered from her trauma with doubles, still occasionally competes with Hakuto over which of her two boyfriends is more lovey-dovey.

Zoological Classification[]

RaceCardRaptorHarpy

Raptor Harpies are large eagle-or hawk-like Harpy subspecies. Their bodies are very similar to human bodies. Though other Harpy subspecies are omnivorous, raptor Harpies are strictly carnivores. They are proud and difficult to please, an unusual trait among the generally amicable harpies.
