Idol Otaku are a subcultural of otaku that follow singing pop idols. They are known to idolize Japanese pop music groups and/or individual pop music idols through the religious acquirement of their merchandise and devoted attendance of all their music concerts.
Idol otaku are famed for performing supportive dances, known "Wotagei" (ヲタ芸), or "Otagei" (オタ芸), during idol performances. These dances are thought to have developed from the ōendan; organized cheering squads common at sporting events in Japan.
