The Mermaid Kingdom is a large thriving community of Mermaids and other aquatic liminals located in the waters of Japan. Lead by the Neptune royal family, more specifically their queen, the entire populace is overwhelmingly obsessed with tragedy, and the vast majority are especially fond of The Little Mermaid, treating it as a guide to live their own lives.
Prior to the events of Volume 9, the queen had instigated a series of rumors centering around Octo, a scylla who lives in the area. After a significant series of events involving her daughter, Meroune, and her current housemates, the queen publicly dispelled the rumors upon realizing that tragedy is not something to be excited over.
The royal family also owns a series of seaside hotel chains, with 2 separate buildings in each location to cater to aquatic and terrestrial species, respectively.
