Pornography, more often shorthanded as Porn, is a genre of media that focuses on provocative and sexually explicit content. The genre's primary purpose is to sexually arouse consumers, with media often depicting characters (particularly females) in revealing outfits (such as certain types of underwear and swimsuits) or completely nude. Explicitly sexual content also includes moments of teasing, groping, and even full sex scenes.
Pornography is unique in that it encapsulates a larger field of mediums than other genres, namely literature, photography, videography, animation, and audio roleplays. It also encapsulates a wide variety of fetishes, from incest and Bondage to cheating and polygamy, amongst many others.
Sexually explicit porn is generally labeled as NSFW (Not Safe for Work), as openly consuming it - particularly in public - is largely frowned upon and often comes with significant consequences.
Trivia[]
- Before coming to fame through the manga series, Okayado was more known for unrelated monster girl doujinshi, much of which was sexually exlicit.
- Kasegi is infamous for filming pornography of numerous Liminals under the Cultural Exchange Between Species Bill under the guise of filming a documentary. Kimihito's homestay girls were far from his first victims, though after Suu exposing his thoughts led to said homestays and Kimihito giving him a beating, Kasegi was taken into custody.[1]
- The Pioneer Orc Renaissance Kinsmen group once held up an entire storefront to demand more porn and erotic mangas depicting their kind.[2] This and their various shameless acts of perversion (especially that of the group's leader) meant that they were ostracized by other Orcs, as the group's antics caused the entire reputation of their species to plummet.[3]
- In Japan, it is generally illegal to depict genitalia in any visual medium, often leading to genitals either being hidden from view or getting heavily censored. Animated media is also typically averse to showing nipples (though on occasion, a male character's nipples will be uncensored), often leading to obscuring them from view, similar levels of censorship, or outright omitting them altogether. For this reason, Okayado generally avoids showing the groin area of any of his characters in his manga, so they are always mostly covered. The only characters whose groin area can be seen openly in Monster Musume are those of Slimes like Suu and Nega-Suu, but that's only because slimes don't have genitals and therefore there is nothing that Okayado has to censor or obscure.
- In the United States, the restrictions are generally similar, except visible nipples are expressly forbidden from being fully visible in mass media for general audiences (though in some areas, censorship is much more lax or extreme). Due to this, the official English release of the manga censored every instance of visible nipples present in the original Japanese print, usually by overlaying them with white circles.
- A common element in many media (particularly anime) is someone having a hidden stash of porn being uncovered by another character (often a close friend or relative, usually female). This stash is almost always physical magazines despite the shift to digital porn in the modern age, solely due to recognizability. This gag was briefly used in one of the Almost Daily OO! Sort of Live Video anime shorts, but did not originate in the original manga.
- Because of the global "bigger is better" mentality, a common trend in a lot of pornographic fanart is altering a character's proportions based on the artist's personal tastes. Typically, this involves making women more buxom and men more muscular than their canon appearances, though other alterations include obesity or even age.
