Lala with her scythe.
A scythe is a large polearm weapon famous for it's hook-like curved blade with an inward-facing cutting edge. Originally developed by the ancient Japanese ninja, scythes were derived from the large sickles used by farmers to cut down foliage.
In popular mythology, a scythe is one of the global symbols of death, being heavily associated with figures such as a grim reaper, or other embodiments of death itself.

Trivia[]
- In the Monster Musume universe, both Grim Reapers and Dullahans are armed with scythes to banish spiritual beings by severing the connection of wandering ghosts on earth to the world of the living with an exorcism, though the blades themselves are (at least in Lala's case because she doesn't maintain her scythe very well)[1] only sharper around the tip and are otherwise blunt and dull. There is also a small divot at the base of the blade near the shaft, which allows the wielder to hook it around another person's neck without harming them.[2]
- Due to Japan's strict regulations regarding weapons, Lala had significant trouble convincing the authorities to let her through with her scythe, ultimately convincing them that it was simply a agricultural implement (which a scythe technically also is).[1]
- As Kimihito states, Lala can summon her scythe out of nowhere, as if by magic, and he often wonders where she keeps the scythe when she doesn't have it with her. It is not known if this is an ability of Lala or of the scythe itself.[3]
- If a Grim Reaper is striked with its own scythe or the scythe of another being of death it will cause them to fade away into smoke. However, it is not known what exactly happens to the Grim Reaper during this process, i.e. whether he is actually destroyed or teleported to an unknown location or whether he regenerates after some time.[4]
