Smith's Car

Smith's Car is a 1961 Volkswagen Beetle imported from the United States. It is owned by Kuroko Smith and appears in Chapter 85.

Surprisingly fast and agile despite its model, Smith says she inherited the car from her father. Although Smith also uses the VW Beetle on public roads, Garu, Aluca and Vikk are dismayed to discover that the car doesn't has any seatbelts, which calls into question its suitability as a safe means of transport.

• The car's model and number plate (69-69) is a reference to the fictional car, Herbie; a sentient Volkswagen Beetle that uses its abilities to help various people and run races. The number plate is a reference to the release date of the first Herbie movie, 1969 (Herbie The Love Bug).
  • While the car's model and number is a reference to Herbie, due to it's dark colouring, Smith's VW Beetle bears a greater physical resemblance to Horace, a second but evil sentient VW Beetle from the Herbie franchise.
