The Technicolor Side Stories, also simply refered as Side Stories in later volumes, are a series of colored short comics in the Monster Musume: Everyday Life with Monster Girls manga series. Drawn by Okayado, the side stories were often published as part of a volume and are usually at the beginning. In this respect, however, the short stories are not to be equated with prologues, as their stories are independent of the main plot of the volume in question and usually deal with everyday situations of the characters appearing in them.
Volume 4[]
"Bra"[]

After demonstrating to her fellow homestays in how to wear a bra, Miia allows them to try out one of the many bras she has from a pile after choosing the one they like. All of them with the exception of Centorea are eager to do so. The first to try it on is Mero who replies to the Lamia that she thinks she looks cuter in one than in a bikini top when being asked. The Mermaid has a difficulty in hooking her bra and asks Miia to help her, the latter realizes that the problem is due to her slippery skin. When it's done, Mero admires how gorgeous she looks in it while Miia cleans her hands.

Suddenly, the straps slip off the shoulders to their shock, forcing the embarrassed mermaid to preserve her modesty manually. The lamia then asks her why she doesn't have this issue with her bikini top to which the latter replies that it's slip-proof. The frustrated Miia tells her to stick to that before looking for the next wearer and it turns out that there are two. Papi and Suu are up next but Miia only decides to let the Harpy try one as there aren't any suitable ones for the slime. She chooses a strapless one for Papi due to her obstructive wings. The Harpy loves it as it makes her look beautiful and it doesn't hinders her arms. The bra is a perfect match for her until she raises her arms.
Centorea's breasts are too big for a bra and Kimihito nearly lost his life (again) from seeing this.
Finally, it's the reluctant Centorea's turn and she appears to be the one most suitable to wear one compared to the previous two as Mero's skin is too slippery and Papi is extremely breastless. Miia chooses one that she assumes to be just right for the Centauride but as the latter is trying it on after being peer-pressured, she finds it to be too tight. The bra hook suddenly snaps when the clueless Kimihito is about to enter the room and the enormous breasts of Centorea are completely exposed to his sight. The embarrassed Centauride kicks him instinctively in response and the moral here as mentioned is to only wear bras you choose.

"Bathing Beauties"[]
Miia, Papi and Centorea ready and looking forward to bathing.
In the bathroom, Miia, Papi and Centorea in their birthday suits are impressed by how huge it is after its latest modifications. Papi immediately jumps into the pool after stripping off her towel and splashes in it. After a short time, she gets out of the pool and says she's finished. However, Centorea grabs hold of the Harpy and scrubs the latter thoroughly with a soap while explaining to her the proper way to take a bath. Papi is being ticklish from Centorea who has a hard time scrubbing the Harpy.

While Centorea soaps Papi, Miia wants to get into the pool, but when she dips the tip of her tail into it, she suffers an unpleasant cold shock. Mero, who is already sitting in the bath, explains to Miia that this particular bath she is about to enter is a cold water bath for Mermaids, much to the lamia's discomfort and annoyance at the Mermaid for not warning her beforehand. While the lamia comments about how the mermaid enjoys cold baths as she shivers, she notices a towel falling from above.

She and Centorea then find Rachnera on the ceiling and when asked why, the Arachne replies that after overhearing them having a communal bath, she decides to join the party. After she is done with Papi, Centorea tells Rachnera that in order to do that, she has to at least enter the pool. The arachne retorts that because she breathes through her abdomen, she'll end up suffocating. Miia suddenly pulls her into the pool and tells her to breathe through her mouth instead if her bottom half is submerged.

Infuriated by how the lamia just treated her, Rachnera claims that she just showered so there's no need to. She then notices the pool she's in feels slimy and wonders whether it has special minerals in it. The Arachne then realizes Suu is in the same pool as her too and is unpleasantly surprised why the latter suddenly starts groping her. Miia and Centorea explain calmly to Rachnera that the pool she's in is meant specially for the Slime and add that it's her way of greeting others. After being told that the only way to get over it is to wait for Suu to be bored with it, the Arachne frantically yells that she doesn't want to take another bath again while the other girls enjoy theirs peacefully.

"Bondage"[]

The chapter is done with narrations in a documentary-like manner regarding Arachne as the half-awake Miia is walking into Rachnera's snare made of the latter's spider silk. When the Lamia is caught in the bondage move the arachne names the "Diamond Pattern Binding", the latter becomes proud of her accomplishment. When Miia complains about it, Rachnera shows her that Mero whom she has caught earlier on in a "Reverse Shrimp Tie" move doesn't but secretly, the Mermaid enjoys being a submissive.

The commotion between them drew Centorea's attention who wants to know what's going on. After hearing about it, the Centauride tells the lamia that she isn't always alert while dodging Rachnera's booby traps except for one made of finer spider silk in a move called "Breast Binding With Hands Behind Back". The arachne gloats about Centorea's carelessness and the helpless centauride can only yell at her angrily.
Miia then admonishes Rachnera that by repetitively getting them trapped in her bondage moves is really old. The Arachne ponders about it and agrees with the lamia, much to Miia's discomfort, as she actually meant with her statement that Rachnera should stop this bondage behavior and not try anything "new". Rachnera then tells Miia that she'll do something about her habit of getting them trapped in her bondage moves and the latter sighs with relief. However, the arachne has the lamia stripped naked and puts the latter in her newly invented bondage move but is still working on its name.
Later on Miia, Centorea and Mero discuss with each other over Rachnera's behavior and intend to come up with a plan to make her stop. In the middle of it, Mero mentions something valuable that's sure to make their plan foolproof. So in the end, they decide to set Suu on the Arachne because as a Slime, she can't be trapped be the latter's bondage moves. As Suu wraps herself around Rachnera, the latter frantically says this isn't the first time that she gets caught by the Slime with frustration.

"Watching the MON Girls Wake Up"[]
The short story takes place in the MON apartment from Doppel's point of view, who, breaking the fourth wall, addresses the readers directly. She reminds readers that the four M.O.N girls are currently under house arrest "for reasons", but Doppel wants to make the best of the situation by watching the other three girls wake up.

To the unspoken question that the readers also want to watch Doppel herself wake up, she says that it must be enough to see her half asleep and she yawns. When she yawns and is briefly unfocused, however, the shapes of eyes and dentures with pointed teeth briefly appear between her long hair. While Doppel quietly opens the door to Manako's room to be the first to watch her wake up, she tells the readers that seeking her wake up would scary them for life, which seems believable given the eerie shapes in her hair that may indicate her real form.

When Doppel looks into Manako's room, however, the latter has already woken up, which disappoints Doppel a bit. When she sees Manako performing bust enhancement exercises, she thinks to herself that she will give the Monoeye girl an "A" for effort, although she does not believe that these exercises will increase Manako's breast size. Still sleepy, Manako opens her window curtains, but to her shock, the sunlight shines head-on into her eye and she sinks to her knees with a watery, aching eye. Doppel, who watched this through the crack in the door, explains with amusement that this mishap happens to Manako on every sunny day, like clockwork. Doppel thinks to herself that Manako is an "adorable klutz".

Next, Doppel watches Zombina sleep, finding it quite boring that the Zombie woman sleeps "like the dead", and doesn't respond to anything. At this moment, however, the Zombie woman suddenly moans between clenched teeth, which makes Doppel hope for a moment that Zombina's "true Zombie nature" emerging as she wakes. But it only turns out that Zombina, since she slacking off on her stretching before going to bed, is now so stiff due of rigor mortis that she can't move. Annoyed, Zombina asks if someone can rub her down, but Doppel ignores this request and goes on to Tionishia's room.

In her room, Tio is still fast asleep and Doppele wants to go on to Ms Smith's room because she won't be caught in Tio's room when the Ogre woman wakes up. But Tio, who is still asleep, suddenly grabs Doppel and hugs her like a teddy bear. Unable to free herself, Doppel accepts the situation after a short annoyance and sleeps a little herself.

"Lala"[]

Miia, Centorea and Mero are discussing about how Lala's ability to appear and disappear out of nowhere which is really eerie. The three of them agree about her behavior in doing this when they least expect it really is mysterious and Miia remembers a time when she saw Lala playing video games with Papi and Suu but at the next moment, the Dullahan suddenly vanished out of thin air which puzzled her.

Kimihito overhears their conversation and joins them while agreeing in how they feel about Lala. He then shares his experience by telling them that there was a time when he was doing the laundry on the clothesline and suddenly the dullahan startled him from between the hung clothes. Lala then gave him her scarf which she had forgotten to give him to wash but the three girls say this story of his isn't as horrify as the one Miia just mentioned.

Agreeing with them, Kimihito then tells them about another incident when he went into his room to change clothes and he suddenly had the strange feeling of being watched by someone but had no idea who it was. While pondering about it, he opened his closet and to his surprise, he saw the half-naked Lala in it who was in the midst of changing clothes. Again, the three of them tells him that incident isn't really scary at all and Miia is annoyed about Lala's behavior in it.

Kimihito then tells and assures them the next story will be a real horror and that was when he was shampooing himself in the bathroom. He suddenly felt someone staring at him and assumed that it might be a ghost but as he turn around to find out, he saw a completely naked Lala who was looking at him. Miia however tells him this story only shows him being a pervert and he gets beaten up by her. The girls later forget what they were talking about as, so when Lala later joins them, she doesn't know what's going on with them.

Ice-Cold Suu"[]
Miia complaining and explaining to her fellow homestays regarding herself being overheated.
On a very hot day, Miia, who is sweating profusely, cools down with a fan and complains that the air conditioning has broken down on this day of all days. Papi and Centorea feel that the day is not so hot, whereupon Miia irritably clarifies that it is easy for the Centauride to say something like that, since their body temperature is naturally high. Centorea asks Miia why the heat bothers her so much and doesn't delight her, since she is usually bothered by cold as a cold-blooded liminal. Unnerved, Miia clarifies that cold-blooded only means that a Lamia's body doesn't maintain a steady temperature, which means that when the outside temperature rises, Miia's body temperature also rises, which can be quite an ordeal. In a calm tone, Centorea says that Miia should calm down.

Exhausted, Miia snuggles up to Suu in the hope of cooling off on her "frosty" slime body, but unpleasantly surprised she finds that Suu's body is warm. Centorea explains that this is only logical, since the body temperature of a slime is room temperature (or better put, water temperature), so Suu only looks cool. Depressed, Miia says this is the one time she thought it was nice to get slimed by Suu. Centorea thinks thoughtfully about whether Suu is technically cold, although Miia considers that as unimportant. Meanwhile, Suu, who is still quite shocked by the revelation that her body is warm, suddenly has an idea.

A little later, Miia is still complaining about the heat, although Centorea has no understanding for it and is rather annoyed. She opens the refrigerator, but is surprised to see Suu sitting inside. Perplexed, Centorea asks the Slime girl what she's doing in there, to which Suu explains that she's not warm anymore. Astonished, Miia asks if what she said earlier bothered Suu, when suddenly an idea comes to her.

She touches Suu's and when it turns out that the Slime girl's body actually feels cold now, she snuggles up to her and said happily that she now can survive the day so cooled down and she says that Suu is really cold now. Suddenly, however, Suu turns away from Miia and it turns out that the Slime girl has become "cold" not only literally but also figuratively due to the refrigerator temperature. In an icy tone, she tells Miia not to touch her, which shocks Miia why Suu is so cold, to which Centorea comments that Miia doesn't need to repeat this all the time.

Nighttime Booty Call"[]

Lala notices Miia, Papi and Rachnera going to sleep in their respective bedrooms one night instead of sneaking into Kimihito's room even though it's a full moon, whose effect awakens in most Liminals their animal and lustful instincts. When Lala asks Centorea about it, the Centauride tells her that this is due to an incident that happened before Lala was staying at Kurusu house.

One evening on a full moon night, Miia tried to sneak into Kimihito's room unnoticed to have sex with him secretly. However, she was caught and tied up by Rachnera, but due to the influence of the full moon, Rachnera tried to sneak into Kimihito's room herself. She was then confronted by Centorea with her sword, although the Centauride only wanted to beat Rachnera in seducing Kimihito too as the pillow hinted the arachne.
Rachnera then tied up Centorea with her spider silk and tried to sneak into Kimihito's room again. Unable to stop Rachnera himself, Centorea then set Suu on the Arachne by lying to her that Rachnera wanted to "play" with her. These words were music to Suu's ears, but she attacked not only Rachnera but also Miia and Centorea and knocked out all three with her usual slime groping.

Centorea punctuates her narrative by saying that since this incident she, Miia and Rachnera have made a deal to stop trying to sneak into Kimihito's room to have sex with him in secret. Lala, however, is not sure what she should think of this story and thinks to herself that Suu seems to have bested all of the other three girls.

"Selfies"[]

While Miia's walking around the Kurusu house, she catches Mero taking selfies of herself which sparks the interest of the Lamia. Mero then explains she heard how Kimihito was talking to Ms Smith about something being a "chick magnet" and since then, she's been taking selfies to send to Kimihito so he could blackmail her into spending a night with her which Miia finds unsettling.

Not wanting to be outdone and seeing the mermaid's selfies only consist of her wearing only her usual swimsuit, Miia commented that it's nothing special as their host always sees her in it. The lamia then decides to go daring with her selfie by having herself being shown partially naked in her pic which shocks Mero who finds it too kinky. Miia then reminds Mero about Kimihito being a "chick magnet" and the latter follows suit by retaking hers with one having a breast slipped out of her bikini top.

Both of them eventually fight over the phone regarding whose picture to send first after they're done when Lala arrives and takes some selfies on herself, posing nude with a scarf. Afterwards, Miia and Mero then take selfies of themselves with various themes to outdo Lala However, Lala suddenly hits the delete button which deletes all her selfie photos when she becomes too embarrassed to the other two's confusion. The lamia and the mermaid then continue to compete with each other using even more daring selfies when Kimihito suddenly calls them for dinner.
As it turns out, Kimihito was talking to Ms Smith about a roast chicken, not a chick magnet which is what Mero had misunderstood. While the chicken is good, Miia, Mero and Lala are still embarrassed that all their hard work and theatre to take selfies was all for nothing.
Trivia[]
- Although in the side story "Bondage" it is said that Arachne are typically early risers, in the main series it is often implied that Rachnera is actually quite a late riser, whereby Miia even says in Chapter 43 that Rachnera sleep until noon every day.
- In the "Bra" side story, Miia said that because of Papi's wings, she chose a strapless bra for the latter but the harpy has no issues wearing one that's of halterneck design in Chapter 75 of the main series.
- Although the bathroom of the Kurusu house is shown to be large enough to contain three pools in "Bathing Beauties" which one is commonly used, another is filled with cold water for Mero and the last is meant only for Suu, these features and additional pools aren't shown at all in the main series.
- Papi laid an unfertilized egg in "Kemomo" with Kimihito's help and during that time, Suu and Mero aren't her fellow homestays yet unlike in the main series and also, her fellow homestays were unfamiliar with harpies laying eggs in the main serie before Chapter 14. Technically, these missing details are not errors, because although "Kimono" was published as part of Volume 9, this side story is actually the prototype chapter of Monster Musume, which Okayado wrote when the main series didn't exist yet.
