Toplessness is the act of being dressed from the waist down but wearing nothing from the waist up. Due to societal norms, it is far more acceptable for men to go around topless - which is better known as going bare-chested - than women since it's considered taboo for the latter to go around with their nipples exposed. Women from many indigenous tribes still go topless as part of their traditional culture.
