A Water Balloon (also known as a "Water Bomb") is a balloon filled with water instead of air. Water balloons are often used as part of a seasonal game where participants throw water-filled balloons at each other, following rules similar to the game Tag (a similar game played in the winter months (when it is snowing) involves throwing snowballs instead of water-filled balloons).
Water balloons are also popular for celebrations, including celebrating Holi and Carnival in India, Nepal, and several other countries.

- Yo-yo balloons (Yo-yo Tsuris), are a common type of water balloon found at matsuri Summer Festivales in Japan. The balloons are often won in a festival game (Yo-yo Tsuri or just yo-yo) where they are set floating in a tub of water. Players "fish" for the balloons with a hook at the end of a twisted paper string. As the wet paper line breaks easily, the game is often likened to goldfish scooping in terms of difficulty.
- Some artists use water balloons as a reference for how to depict weight and motion when drawing breasts (as the nature of water balloons and breasts are thought to be similar).
