A Wheelchair is a singular chair with wheels, typically used when walking is difficult or impossible due to illness, injury, or disability.

Wheelchairs come in a wide variety of formats to meet the specific needs of their users. They may include specialized seating adaptations, individualized controls, and may be modified to suit specific activities, as seen with sports wheelchairs and beach wheelchairs.

Beings that are not adapted to traversing land, such as Mermaids, often use wheelchairs to retain a sense of independent mobility when traveling beyond their watery habitats.

Meroune's Wheelchairs[]

Meroune's Self-propelled Wheelchair[]

Mero5

Meroune's initial wheelchair is a conventional self-propelled lightweight wheelchair that she is capable of either propelling herself (by pushing/pulling the wheels by hand) or have someone push/pull her by the handlebars attached to the seat. A pouch is located in the back of the chair to store items and keepsake.

Shortly after her arrival into the Kurusu House, Meroune's wheelchair was accidentally destroyed by Miia and so Meroune had to be carried around the house by Kimihito until a new wheelchair arrived.

Meroune seems to possess two other wheelchair models that she has been shown using in Chapter 10 and Chapter 37/43.

Meroune's Powerchair[]

ExhibitionWheelChair1

While attending the Inter-Species Cultural Exchange Exposition in Chapter 48, Meroune discovers an exhibit showcasing various "independent transportation devices" and finds a self-powered amphibious wheelchair capable of locomotion above and below the water.

While initially considering buying the powerchair to replace her conventional self-propelled wheelchair, Meroune thinks better of it after realising that, if she bought the powerchair, she would no longer have an excuse to have Kimihito help push her chair around. However, Meroune's Mother learns of the wheelchair and quickly buys it for her without consulting her much to Miia and Cerea's anger, because, influenced by Mero's counterargument, they themselves didn't buy the things they liked at the EXPO (a tail cleaner and Centaur shoes).

Trivia[]

  • The two most widely known wheelchair variations are powered wheelchairs ("powerchairs"); where propulsion is provided by batteries and electric motors, and manually propelled wheelchairs; where the propulsive force is provided either by the wheelchair user/occupant pushing the wheelchair by hand ("self-propelled"), or by an attendant pushing from the rear ("attendant propelled").

Meroune's Mother's wheelchair

  • The earliest records of wheeled seats being used for transporting disabled persons are found in China; when the Chinese used early wheelbarrows to move people as well as heavy objects around locations.
  • Meroune's Mother's wheelchair is a tracked (presumably "all-terrain") wheelchair modified to represent a royal throne.
  • Meroune's first self-propelled wheelchair first appeared with her first appearance in Chapter 10. Her self-powered amphibious powerchair first appeared in Chapter 48.
